Leaning Tower of Pisa
Pisa sits on the banks of the River Arno and hosts abundant historic and artistic monuments, with narrow streets which open onto picturesque little squares, the Piazza dei Cavalieri being one. The Piazza dei Miracoli consists of the world famous Leaning Tower, the Cathedral, the Baptistry and the Monumental Churchyard and many little market stalls.
Pisa is not only famous for its Leaning Tower but its various churches and medieval buildings, together with a very reputable University with an excellent track record in the medical field.
The Walls
It is now possible to walk 3km along the walls of Pisa, from the River Arno at Piazzetta del Rosso, to the Piazza dei Miracoli, where the Leaning Tower is situated. The building of the Pisa’s Walls began in 1154 in the area of the city north of the Arno river, and still in excellent condition today. A great way to see the city and the Piazza dei Miracoli from up high.
