Travel to Italy

Having driven to Italy many times, a road trip from the UK can be a wonderful experience, especially if spread over 2–3 days. This allows you to explore other parts of Europe along the way and can save on car hire costs at your destination.

Flights
There are numerous airlines offering flights from the UK and Ireland to various destinations in Italy. For the best fares, it can be worth adding an extra day at either end of your trip if your schedule allows. We can also help arrange extra nights in local hotels to suit your budget.

Airlines frequently offering good deals include:
Ryanair, British Airways, EasyJet, Jet2, Vueling, Eurowings, Aer Lingus, and ITA Airways.

Lucca, Tuscany
The most convenient airport for Lucca is Pisa. Car hire is available on arrival, and the drive to Lucca takes approximately 25–30 minutes.

Flights to Pisa are available from many UK and Irish airports:
  • Ryanair: Dublin, Edinburgh, Prestwick, Manchester, Leeds Bradford, Stansted
  • British Airways: Gatwick, Heathrow, and other UK airports via London
  • Jet2: Birmingham, Leeds Bradford

Florence, Tuscany
Florence has its own airport, though Pisa Airport is a convenient alternative, approximately 1.5 hours by car.

Flights to Florence are available from:
  • Vueling: Gatwick, Dublin, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh
  • British Airways: London City, Southampton, Edinburgh

Sardinia
The nearest airport to Puntaldia is Olbia, about a 30-minute drive. Alghero Airport is another option, approximately 2 hours away.

Flights are available from:
  • EasyJet: Gatwick, Bristol, Luton, Manchester to Olbia
  • Vueling: Birmingham, Manchester, Dublin, Edinburgh to Olbia via Barcelona
  • British Airways: Heathrow to Olbia
  • Ryanair: Stansted to Alghero
  • Aer Lingus: Dublin to Alghero

Rome
Rome is served by two airports: Fiumicino (35 km from the city centre) and Ciampino (17 km away). Both have taxis, buses, trains, and transfer options.

Flights to Rome are available from:
  • Aer Lingus: Dublin
  • Ryanair: East Midlands, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Cork, Dublin
  • British Airways: Heathrow direct and other UK airports
  • EasyJet: Glasgow, Bristol, Manchester, Gatwick
  • Jet2: Glasgow, Edinburgh, and other UK airports

Trapani, Sicily
Trapani is served by Palermo Airport (around 1 hour away) and Trapani Airport (35 minutes away). A private transfer service is also available (£100 each way for up to 4 people).

Flights to Palermo include:
  • Ryanair: Stansted, Edinburgh
  • EasyJet: Gatwick, Luton
  • ITA Airways: Heathrow, London City​
Flights to Trapani include:
