Cinque Terre - Villages Built On The Cliff Sides

The Cinque Terre, meaning “Five Lands,” refers to five vibrant and picturesque villages nestled dramatically into the cliffs of the Ligurian coastline: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Each of these charming towns has its own distinct personality — from Monterosso’s sandy beaches to Vernazza’s bustling harbour, Corniglia’s hilltop tranquility, Manarola’s colourful houses cascading toward the sea, and Riomaggiore’s romantic waterfront views.

Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Cinque Terre is celebrated for its breathtaking coastal scenery, terraced vineyards that cling to steep hillsides, and rugged hiking trails connecting the villages. The area offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and authentic Italian character, making it one of the most unforgettable destinations in Liguria.

One of the most enjoyable ways to experience the Cinque Terre is from the sea. You can take a boat trip from the nearby port of Lerici and sail along the spectacular coastline, admiring the pastel-hued villages from the water. The journey typically includes a stop in Monterosso, where you’ll have about an hour to explore its charming streets, enjoy a gelato, or dip your toes in the Ligurian Sea before rejoining the boat for the scenic return trip.
