Pietrasanta - Beautiful Hillside Town
Pietrasanta is a picturesque little mediaeval town, nestling in the Apuan Alps, near Lucca. It is world-renowned for its sculpting schools, due to its close proximity to the source of the famous Carrara marble as used by Michaelangelo himself. The artists studios mingle with small elegant shops among the wooden shutters and ochre washed buildings in the deep alleyways that radiate from the main square, the Piazza del Duomo.
The town has Roman origins and part of the Roman wall still stands, and from the top of the walls there is a spectacular view out to the sea.
Piazza del Duomo often plays host to classical concerts, and street performers, and with its café/bars it is an ideal place to while away some time people-watching in beautiful surroundings.
