Villa il Colle

Situated in the Florentine countryside 'Villa il Colle' is a beautiful XIV century villa, surrounded by olive and cypress trees. It is a family run bed and breakfast, 5km from Florence, with each suite and room decorated in a distinct Tuscan style with breathtaking views. All rooms are equipped with bathroom, air conditioning, and satellite TV, and within the villa there is an internet point, billiard room, small wine cellar, and self-service coffee machine for guests' use.

Villa Il Colle is a 15-20 inute drive to the Florence Tennis Club.

History

In the main garden you will find an accient 'Taxus Baccata', a secular tree registered with the University of Botanical Arts of Florence. The Villa nestles in the Montisoni hillside, a short walk from the enchanting XIII century Montisoni monastery and the picturesque Antella piazza.

The first written reference to 'Villa il Colle' is in the State Archives of Florence: this document dates back to 1330 and attests to the existence of an estate called 'Il Colle' which consisted of a home with a shed and an oven to dry figs.

During the 14th century, in the Villa resided the Bancozzi family, wealthy Florentine merchants and wool dyers. On September 2, 1473, the Villa was sold and then owned by the Biliotti family for about three centuries.

We learn through these documents that during this time, a very beautiful oratory was constructed in which mass was celebrated up until the time Napoleon came to govern in that region. Successively the Villa changed owners numerous times: in 1813 it was acquired by the Lapi family, then by the Moratti-Espinassi, then to the Kufner, the Finzi and finally to the Valori family.

After a very extensive restoration, the original Villa was divided into different sections and the 'Villa il Colle' with its ancient cypress trees, was restored to its antique splendour by the Pierattoni Family, who run this bed and breakfast today.
