Barga - The Most Scottish Town in Italy
Barga is a great "Scottish" town to visit in an afternoon. The close connection with Scotland should be experienced first-hand. The locals, and their celebration of a unique connection make the town a little bit different from your typical Italian community.
You can spend a couple of hours exploring the beautiful historic centre with many interesting art galleries, a wonderful 12th century cathedral and more importantly some of the best ice cream parlours in the area!
Situated in the Serchio Valley, Barga makes an excellent starting point for touring the Garfagnana.
Barga also hosts traditional folkloric and musical events such as Opera Barga and Barga Jazz.
Historically, the area has close links with Scotland, where many inhabitants emigrated in the early part of the century, often to work in the catering trade.
